STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE REQUIREMENTS
New Hampshire standards were developed with several related existing standards from Computer Science Teacher Association (CSTA), Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance, CSforAll, and Code.org.
“In order to be an informed, engaged, and productive citizen in our State and our Nation, it is imperative that students learn the fundamental skills and knowledge of computer science. Computer science and computing technologies affect us socially, politically, and economically.
- Computer science is changing how we interact with our environment and with one another.
- Computer science is changing how we interact with our political leaders and institutions.
- Computer science is disrupting every industry, creating new industries, and driving new scientific and engineering breakthroughs.”

At Rex, we have matched New Hampshire’s vision with our own.
Requirements:
- In K – 6, New Hampshire’s standards recommends integrating computer science as part of other classes and disciplines, while focusing on block-based programming, problem-solving, and sequencing.
- For middle schools, New Hampshire’s standards recommends one computer science or engineering course per academic year which can include text-based programming, design, IT fundamentals, and cybersecurity.
- In high schools, they require ½ credit of computer science while allowing further exploration through CTE programs with classes in programming, AI, data structures, cybersecurity, and more.

Since CS is an active field of STEM, New Hampshire would like students to engage in hands-on, real-world interactions with math, science, and engineering principles.
As such, New Hampshire has developed the following pathways to cluster with CTE pathways.
- Network Systems Pathway
- Information Support and Services Pathway
- Web and Digital Communications Pathway
- Programming and Software Development Pathway
Additionally, they would like to integrate with the following CTE areas:
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Engineering and Manufacturing
- Health Science
- Business Management and Finance
In the early levels, New Hampshire is trying to integrate CS to develop social and emotional skills while building cognitive learning and development.

Here is a sample of what New Hampshire is trying to do achieve across multiple disciplines.
