STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE REQUIREMENTS

New Hampshire standards were developed with several related existing standards from Computer Science Teacher Association (CSTA), Expanding Computing Education Pathways (ECEP) Alliance, CSforAll, and Code.org. 

“In order to be an informed, engaged, and productive citizen in our State and our Nation, it is imperative that students learn the fundamental skills and knowledge of computer science. Computer science and computing technologies affect us socially, politically, and economically.  

  • Computer science is changing how we interact with our environment and with one another. 
  • Computer science is changing how we interact with our political leaders and institutions. 
  • Computer science is disrupting every industry, creating new industries, and driving new scientific and engineering breakthroughs.”

Requirements: 

  • In K – 6, New Hampshire’s standards recommends integrating computer science as part of other classes and disciplines, while focusing on block-based programming, problem-solving, and sequencing. 
  • For middle schools, New Hampshire’s standards recommends one computer science or engineering course per academic year which can include text-based programming, design, IT fundamentals, and cybersecurity. 
  • In high schools, they require ½ credit of computer science while allowing further exploration through CTE programs with classes in programming, AI, data structures, cybersecurity, and more.
