It seems like there is new tech jargon tossed around on a daily basis, but one phrase pops up repeatedly: AI. What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has many definitions. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, AI is “a branch of computer science dealing with the simulation of intelligent behavior in computers” or “the capability of a machine to imitate human behaviors.” But in the simplest terms, Artificial Intelligence is a section of computer science which enables computers and machines to make educated decisions and predictions.
Artificial Intelligence may seem confusing and convoluted, but it resides almost everywhere in our world today. From autocorrect, text prediction on phones, and even devices like Amazon’s Alexa and the Google’s Google Home, AI is everywhere, and it is a growing field. Everyday, new prospects for AI emerge, creating the possibility for new technologies and even jobs.
But why AI? Well, AI is a rapidly growing field with endless possibilities and it truly benefits humans and the world around us. AI enables us to filter through extensive sets of data that humans alone could not accomplish. AI also provides the ability to be in places where humans cannot be present, for instance, by assessing disaster relief methods after a storm or examining a warfront. On top of that, AI can help eliminate human errors, making it crucial for future fields of study.
With all the growing impacts of AI and prospects of study and improvement, it is important to begin immersing ourselves in this new technological world. AI has so many future possibilities, and it is important for these coming generations to understand and maintain such technologies. Starting at an early age, stem classes for kids and AI courses are a great way to kick start a solid foundation of machine learning and artificial intelligence. is a great place to start.
